The Western Development Museum - Yorkton, the Yorkton Threshermen's Club and the East Central Seniors invite you to an old-fashioned celebration August 2nd & 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily at the 59th Threshermen's Show and Seniors' Festival.
Visitors to will be treated to a glimpse of Saskatchewan's heritage through the operation of vintage equipment and the re-enactment of methods and techniques from the past. The Show and Festival's popularity stems from its blend of traditional skills with the spirit and diversity of Saskatchewan people. Enjoy demonstrations of sawmilling, blacksmithing, grain grinding and rolled oats milling. The threshing demonstrations give today's generation an idea of the work put into harvest during the early part of the 20th century. Don't miss your opportunity to see this piece of history! Take time out to sample pioneer treats like ice cream and bread freshly baked in an outdoor clay oven, made by hand with old-fashioned homemaking skills. Quilting by the York Colony Quilters Guild will also be demonstrated along with other handiwork.
If it's the spirit of competition that attracts you, you'll want to be sure to view or participate in the stooking competition. For the antique buff there's the Antique Car and Tractor Competition. Special highlights of the Show & Festival include the Story of Harvest, Plowing Demonstrations, the Hobby & Handicraft Sale, the special Western Producer 90th anniversary exhibit - all of which you won't want to miss!
And what would an old-time get-together be without music? Enjoy the non-stop entertainment on the outdoor bandstand. For the kids there are old-fashioned games, horsedrawn rides, and the always popular Pedal Tractor Pull. Sunday morning start off your day with a delicious pancake breakfast followed by a Hymn Sing.
