Winter weather can really affect your vehicle and its engine. To prepare your vehicle for the snow and cold, CAA Saskatchewan encourages motorists to follow these important tips:
Test your battery: Colder temperatures can weaken the battery and cause it to fail.
Test your block heater and cord: When the temperature falls below -15°C, it's important to plug in.
Test your engine coolant: Your vehicle needs the correct amount and strength for optimal performance.
Check your cooling system: Ensure there are no cracks in the hoses, or coolant leaks.
Check your tire pressure: The right pressure is important for traction and fuel efficiency.
Check the ignition system: Replace spark plugs as recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.
Check brakes: Pulling, a soft pedal, or unusual squealing or grinding may mean repairs are needed.
Check the exhaust system: Leaks could send carbon monoxide into your vehicle.
Check your washer fluid: It should be rated in the -40°C temperature range.
Before the snow flies: Install your winter tires now.

CAA Saskatchewan's Emergency Road Service (ERS) Express is an automated system that receives and dispatches emergency road service when calls are placed from members at their home address. This service helps reduce long telephone waits for members who live in the city, allowing call centre staff to respond to more complex calls. ERS Express Service is available in Regina, Saskatoon, Weyburn, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Saskatoon and Estevan. Calls from rural areas will continue as per regular process. CAA Saskatchewan is the first CAA/AAA club in North America to implement the ERS Express Service.
