Saskatchewan police officers wrote more than 1,000 tickets last weekend in a crackdown on aggressive driving.

Operation Spring Brake, conducted April 24 and 25, targeted violations including speeding, driving too fast for road conditions, running red lights and stop signs stunting (showing off), racing and passing on the right.

SGI estimates as many as 90 per cent of traffic collisions could be prevented if people simply obeyed the rules of the road. Every month, the province's law enforcement agencies in conjunction with the provincial insurer, run a traffic safety blitz to raise awareness of the unfortunate statistics that show Saskatchewan leading the country in traffic injuries and deaths.

In addition to 749 citations for aggressive driving, cops handed out tickets for 130 seatbelt, 56 cell phone, three impaired driving and 108 other violations.

In March, Operation Hang Up Buckle Up resulted in 282 charges.
