Two people are in custody following a Hollywood-style car chase near Punnichy last Wednesday.
The suspects, Keli William Stonechild (24) and Kristin Marie Lerat (32) allegedly fled from Regina police on the evening of July 20 in a Dodge Caravan. Members from the White Butte, Lumsden, Southey, Punnichy and Wynyard RCMP Detachments along with RCMP Regina Police Dog Services took up the search for the van. Eventually officers from Punnichy observed the suspects with a long-barrelled firearm apparently trying to car-jack a vehicle from a 65-year-old male just outside the town.
No shots were fired and the victim received what a press release described as “minor injuries.”
The suspects again fled in their van eastbound on Hwy 15, shooting at police in the process.
The release stated police did not return fire and ultimately stopped the suspects and arrested them without incident.
Stonechild faces 11 charges and Lerat eight including attempted murder and robbery with a firearm.
Both appeared in Regina Provincial Court Monday and were remanded until August 2.
