Unhappy New Year for Madge Lake cottage owner

The new year started badly for a property owner at Madge Lake as fire claimed this cottage and some recreational vehicles early on January 2. Gary Gabel, a witness to the blaze said it could have been much worse if not for “the quick action of Greg [Podovinikoff, a maintenance foreman from Duck Mountain Provincial Park] who immediately went and obtained a large supply of water on a trailer and began measures to fight the fire and prevent neigbouring damage.” Gabel also commented on the professionalism of the volunteer Kamsack fire brigade. Nobody was injured.
