Sept. 14 has been declared the Canadian Federation of University Women’s Day in Yorkton.
The request to have the day declared was made at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
“The Canadian Federation of University Women/Yorkton Inc. (CFUW) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization of women university graduates in the Yorkton area that is concerned with promoting women’s equality and education. CFUW/Yorkton was founded in 1954 and for over six decades has actively participated in public affairs through education, advocacy and action. CFUW/Yorkton is affiliated with the Provincial, National and International Federation of University Women. CFUW is a self-funded bilingual organization with members in all the provinces of Canada,” said local CFUW chapter president Eileen Harvey.
“The government of Saskatchewan again will be proclaiming September 14, 2015, as Canadian Federation of University Women’s Day in Saskatchewan. The Canadian Federation of University Women/Yorkton would be most appreciative if you would declare Sept. 14, 2015, Canadian Federation of University Women’s Day in Yorkton.”
The CFUW/Yorkton is involved in the community in a number of ways, including awarding scholarships to:
Presently, CFUW/Yorkton Inc. awards scholarships to:
*Grade 12 girls attending post-secondary institutions
*A University Entrance Scholarship to a female student attending the Parkland Regional College in Yorkton
*A Senior Music Student at the Yorkton Music Festival
Also upcoming On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Canadian Federation of University Women/Yorkton Inc. will host a reception at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery at 9:30 am.
