Decoration Day Services marking the Normandy Invasion of World War II were hosted by the General Alexander Ross Branch #77 of the Royal Canadian Legion Monday. The event included a parade down part of King Street and through the Yorkton Cemetery to the graves of fallen soldiers and veterans. The program included the laying of wreaths, playing of The Last Post, and scattering of ashes from the burning of Remembrance Day wreaths on the graves of soldiers. The day marks the Allied invasion which began June 6, 1944. There were 206,000 Allied casualties between June and late August, and 400,000 German casualties during the same time. The Normandy Invasion for Canadians centred on Juno Beach near the town of Courseulles-Sur-Mer.
