Veterans Week set for city

Yorkton Council has declared the week of Nov. 5 to 11 in the city as Veterans Week.

Yorkton Council has declared the week of Nov. 5 to 11 in the city as Veterans Week.

In making the request Comrade Peter Wyatt of Royal Canadian Legion Alexander Ross Branch #77, told the regular meeting of Council Monday 2014 is another year where we have a chance to say Thank You "to those many men and women who so bravely gave of themselves to give us the opportunities and freedoms we enjoy today."

Wreath sales began on Oct. 27 with veterans and members of the Legion going to local businesses selling the wreaths, said Wyatt.

Remembrance Day Services will be held in the Flexi Hall at the Gallagher Centre, Nov. 11 starting at 10:30.

After the service the Legion will be hosting a luncheon in the Legion Lounge.

The Remembrance Day banquet will start with refreshments at 5:30 with the banquet at 6:30. The pipe band will be honouring us with a visit. Tickets are $20 per person and available at the Legion.

Remembrance Day is a very important day for all veterans and Legion members. They would like as many citizens of Yorkton to join us and share in our Veterans Remembrances and to celebrate the freedoms they gave us, concluded Wyatt.
