The Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) recently presented their volunteer awards for southern Saskatchewan at their Regional Annual Awards Ceremony. Melissa Johnson of Hyas, Saskatchewan, was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award for her exceptional contribution to the work of the organization.
"As the mother of two children with type 1 diabetes, Melissa brings a valuable voice to Canadian Diabetes Association's advocacy committee," says Warren Wagner, regional director, Saskatchewan, CDA. "She has also coordinated several events, including a CDA awareness and volunteer recognition event in Yorkton and a successful ladies accessory shopping party fundraiser. These contributions are essential to our continued efforts to support those living with diabetes in Saskatchewan."
Melissa is extremely passionate about raising awareness and helping those in the community who are experiencing the same challenges she is in raising children with type 1 diabetes. She is also dedicated to raising funds to help find a cure.
"We could not succeed in our mission to lead the fight against diabetes without the support of our incredible volunteers in Saskatchewan," says Wagner. "They truly make a difference in the lives of the more than 90,000 people currently living with diabetes in this province."
