Volunteers can help at tax time

If you are unable to complete your income tax and benefit return by yourself and are unable to pay for assistance, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program may be for you.

If you are unable to complete your income tax and benefit return by yourself and are unable to pay for assistance, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program may be for you.

The Canada Revenue Agency offers free volunteer tax training sessions to community organizations and individuals across the country.

These volunteers are now available to help you complete your income tax and benefit return if your income is low and your tax situation is simple.

The success of this program depends on the commitment of people from non-profit organizations within our community who volunteer their time and effort to help others. As volunteers, they are required to respect the privacy of the client, decline any offers of monetary reward for their services, and return the completed income tax and benefit return and other personal documents to the client.

Volunteers do not complete income tax and benefit returns for deceased persons, bankrupt individuals, or individuals who have capital gains or losses, employment expenses, farming, business or rental income and expenses or investment income over $1,000.

Volunteer tax preparation clinics are held between February and April of each year in various locations across Saskatchewan. For more information about this free service see our website at www.cra.gc.ca/volunteer or call us at 1-800-959-8281.

A clinic will be held in Yorkton at the Yorkton Friendship Centre at 139 Dominion Avenue. It will operate year-round from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This service is available by appointment by calling Vicky Wapamoose at 782-2822. Volunteers will prepare current and prior year returns.
