Volunteers needed for fundraisers

Heather Moller and hubby, Jeff Beck, returned home to London, Ontario after a week of holidaying. While here, Heather celebrated Mother`s Day with her Mom for the first time in 29 years, helped her parents, Earle and Nina Moller, celebrate their big 65th wedding anniversary and helped her great aunt, Lydia Zimmer, move from Yorkton to the Morris Lodge in Bangor. We can safely say that at 104, Lydia is now the oldest resident in Bangor and, quite likely, one of the spryest. All of your Dubuc friends wish you a happy and healthy stay in your new home, Lydia.

Just a reminder that the United Church in Atwater will again be holding one of their regular Sunday worship services in the Dubuc Worship Centre as a way of sharing their Christian faith with others. The service will be held on June 9 at 10 in the morning. Everyone is invited to attend this community faith gathering. There will be a lunch served at the Hut following the service for those who wish to stay and visit a while.

Congratulations to Danette Topliss and Harley Hoffman of Ebenezer who returned from a late warm winter holiday and announced their engagement. Danette is the daughter of Lanny Topliss from Dubuc and Linda Ungar of Regina. Best wishes to you both, Danette and Harley, from everyone at Dubuc. The wedding will be held later this summer.

Spring has sprung without a doubt - new calves and lambs are romping in the pastures, lawns are being cut and shaped up after the long winter, gardens and field crops are being planted, the trees are leafing out and turning the countryside green, while the ones in the yards get their annual trim ups, the migrating birdies are back, tulips and daffodils are blooming and flower pots are appearing everywhere. Yeah, spring is here!

Congrats to former Dubucite, Judy Talbot, who was the lucky winner of a grocery hamper at the Care Home Auxillary Soup and Sandwich Day recently.

The monthly community birthday party was held on the fourth Wednesday of May as usual. Some played a version of Trivial Pursuit and others played a game of whist. There were 18 present for a lovely potluck lunch that included birthday cake, of course. The birthday girls in attendance were Joan Kerr, who was actually celebrating that day (May 22), Vivian Talbot and Glenda Bell. There were 5 candles to blow out and, in the first attempt, the three of them only managed to blow one out! So the saying was "How many old women does it take to blow out 5 candles?" Needless to say, much fun was had with that. Hope you girls have a great year and get some exercise using those lungs!! Gladys Simle and Judy Talbot, both former Dubuc residents now living at Sumner Place in Esterhazy, returned home for an afternoon of visiting. It was sure nice to see you guys.

The Dubuc Recreation Association is in the process of holding a bottle and can drive to raise funds for the upkeep of our local hall. The collection depot is Talbot's garage on Joseph St. The DRA will also be doing their annual highway cleanup between Stockholm and Dubuc again this year. Expect a call from a committee member regarding both these fundraisers or please call us if you can help and somehow we've missed calling you. Last year we raised over $1800 by doing these projects and we hope to meet or exceed that this year.
