A walk in remembrance of Tammy Kulaway and her dog Sammy is being held in Springside Oct. 2.
The Tam & Sam Walk Against Violence is being organized by Mandee Kulaway.
"Tammy was a kind loving unforgettable person," said Mandee Kulaway. "She loved animals and took many into her home and loved them like her own as she had her own kennel called Prairie Sky Kennels. She loved people and would lend a hand wherever she could and also held the ones who needed help close to her heart.
"Tammy and Sammy were unfortunately taken from us due to a cruel act of violence and it is my goal for people to remember Tammy as the person she was not how she was taken."
Mandee said she has been focusing on awareness since Tammy was murdered on March 12 this year.
"I started with the white ribbon against violence ribbon decal which stands for not only violence against women but violence in general including that of animals. We had a fantastic response to this."
Kulaway said she sees the decals not only in and around Yorkton, but across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.
"Tammy gave to people and animals throughout her life and now in return we still want to be able to give in her memory," she said.
Kulaway said the walk is not about raising money, but in having people think.
"The goal of the walk is to raise awareness of violence towards people and animals," she said. "It is not only that we have to give something to those in need but just to show support that we care."
If money is donated, it will go to a good cause.
"This is going to be an annual event that each year we will chose an organization that would benefit from the proceeds of the donations given to help those affected by violence," said Kulaway.
"This year we chose Shelwin House as memorial donations were given this year in memory of Tammy, and to the Guardian Angel Animal Rescue and the SPCA already, and we want to benefit more than one organization throughout our annual walk events."
Everyone is welcome to attend the walk with or without a dog. Dog owners are reminded to please bring them on a leash, and to bring baggies. All dogs are the sole responsibility of the owner, noted Kulaway.
The walk will begin at 1 p.m., on Willis Ave. in Springside.
There is no registration fee or cost. There will be a donation box set up where proceeds will be given to Shelwin House.
