Wastewater project approved

Yorkton Council approved a tender at its regular meeting Monday to do some upgrade work at the City's wastewater treatment plant.

The plant "is in its 25th year of operation and requires the protective gas proofing coating on the primary digester to be replaced. During its life span the digester is

subject to very corrosive gases such as methane, hydrogen sulfide and sulfuric acids. After cleaning and inspection was completed in 2011, it was found that the internal piping and gas proof coating were showing early signs of failure and would require repair or replacement," detailed material circulated to Council.

"This item was identified and approved during the 2013 capital budget deliberations at an estimated cost of $500,000," said Michael Buchholzer, Director of Environmental Services with the City.

The recommendation is to award the contract to the low bidder, Commercial Sandblasting & Painting for a lump sum of $308,800.00. It is also recommended to include a contingency of $32,000 which results in an overall budget of $340,800, detailed the material.

Council was unanimous in passing the Administration recommendation.
