Online visitors to wdm.ca/library can now access a search platform with advanced search capabilities that features RSS feeds for recently catalogued material and the ability to share lists and saved searches with your friends. It is also smartphone and tablet compatible. There is no charge to search the catalogue - all the user needs to do is set up a profile.

“Over the years, the many people who have worked or volunteered in the WDM reference library shared the same goal - to make the Library material more accessible to the public,” said Warren Clubb, Research and Library Coordinator. “Putting the catalogue online fulfills this goal.”

The George Shepherd Library is named in honor of the WDM’s first curator, Dr. George Shepherd. The Library contains over 10,000 items including pamphlets, books, serials, photographs and WDM Archives on a broad range of topics, including agricultural machinery, cookbooks, dental/medical equipment, carpentry, Eaton’s catalogues, price lists, house plans, tools, Saskatchewan history, fashions, steam engines, railways and much more.

“As a researcher myself, I am so excited by this initiative,” stated Joan Champ, Chief Executive Officer of the WDM. “Previously, the WDM’s library catalogue was only accessible in-house. This will provide public access to the unique holdings of the Museum’s library, and is in keeping with the WDM’s mandate to stimulate interest in the history of Saskatchewan.”
