The new year got off to a wet start at Dr. Brass School, after a sprinkler line on the school’s main floor burst at 4:15 p.m. on January 1.
Principal Jason Gordon expects that school will begin as normal on January 4, and credits the fast response by Yorkton Fire Services and the Good Spirit School Division Facility team with limiting the damage to isolated areas of the building. Gordon says that it is amazing how much work has already been done by GSSD staff and the flood services company on the building to get the facility prepared for the start of classes.
The dollar value of the damage is not known at this time, but Good Spirit School Division Facilities Manager Theresa Korol estimates that the majority of the damage will be to the flooring on the main floor in the hallways and one classroom, basement ceilings and some contents in the basement.
