Residents of the Yorkton neighbourhood of Riverside were awakened this Thursday night past by numerous sirens screaming through the streets. Several fire trucks, police cruisers and an ambulance raced to area of Yorkton Creek below Riverside Terrace where a resident had reported a woman yelling for help.
In a scene reminiscent of a cinematic manhunt, firefighters lighted up the scrub around the river. They located and rescued a 25-year-old woman at the water’s edge. She was hypothermic according to police.
The RCMP also said she was drunk and could not recall how she had wound up in the creek.
Firefighters assisted her to the ambulance and she was transported to Yorkton Regional Health Centre by EMTs.
In the course of the investigation, the RCMP determined the woman was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants for various criminal code offences in Yorkton including theft.
Police are not currently releasing her name, but she is scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court May 11.
