The International Woman’s Day event on the Keeseekoose First Nation was meant to recognize and value women in the region, and continue to work for equality. The event featured six speakers and was meant to get people talking about the impact women have made in their communities and celebrate the positives in order to inspire women.
“By getting both native and non-native women together socially I hope we are making an effort to understand one another, and breaking the pattern of racism, prejudice and injustice,” said Marcella Pedersen in her speech at the event.
Attendees were also asked to recognize women who they admired and who inspire them. Women named were Mary Jane Keshane, Gwen O’Soup, Violet Keshane, Louise Lulashnyk, Kristen Keshane, and Theresa Desnomie-Fiddler.
