Thousands of people gathered Saturday to witness the world record for 'Most Antique Threshing Machines Operating Simultaneously' at the Olde Tyme Harvest for Hunger event that took place just east of Langenburg.
With 41 operational threshing machines, they beat the former record of 29 threshing machines operating simultaneously, set in Rockriver Wisconsin in 2008.
"The world record is cool but the best part is bringing the community together and celebrating old time spirit like back in the day." Terry Aberhart, chair of the executive committee says.
That sentiment seemed to be shared by organizers and attendees alike.
"The old ways of farming were all about good food and good companionship. It was a neighbourhood thing. People cooked and got together, it was recreation, you went farm to farm. That's something that is lost in today's society," Ken Mack who spearheaded the event told Yorkton This Week in July.
"We can make a good memory for everyone that is here," Mack says. "People are here together, enjoying the day and that is the best part," he adds.
The event saw more than 6500 people in attendance and raised a total of about $65,000 for the Canadian Food Grains Bank. Four hundred volunteers helped to make the day possible.
