They're getting close-organizers of the August 24 Olde Tyme Harvest in Langenburg hoped for 40 antique threshing machines, and now they have 37 coming to event.
"We're very pleased with the response," says committee member Warren Kaeding, noting that in addition to raising funds for Canadian Foodgrains Bank, a partnership of 15 churches and church agencies working together to end global hunger, organizers want to set a new world record for having the most antique threshing machines operating at the same time.
With the 37 threshing machines committed to attend the event, the Olde Tyme Harvest will break the old record of 29 established in Rock River, Wisconsin in 2008.
Included among the vintage equipment coming to the event is a 1911 Case, a 1911 Type D 10-20 Titan, a 1917 Model R Waterloo Boy, a 1912 30-60 Rumley Model E, a 1927 18-36 Hart-Parr, and a 1927 McCormick Deering 15-30. There will also be antique drills, trucks and other equipment on display.
In addition to the threshing, the event will feature award-winning Saskatchewan singer Codie Prevost, comedian Steve StubbleJumpski, an eight-acre corn maze, local crafts and other exhibits and attractions.
Funds raised at the Olde Tyme Harvest will be used by the Foodgrains Bank in its food assistance programs in the developing world.
The day begins with a pancake breakfast from at 10 AM. The opening ceremonies are at 12:30 PM, the first threshing demonstration is at 1 PM, and the second is at 4 PM.
In addition to the threshing, there's entertainment all day, and an auction at 4 PM. From 10 AM to 5 PM visitors can take in a trade show, farmer's market, antique car show, art show, corn maze, and kid's activities. The closing ceremony is at 4:45 PM.
"It's going to be a great event," says Kaeding. "It will be fun, educational and, best of all, make a real difference for people around the world who don't have enough to eat."
Langenburg is located on the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy. 16), 70 kilometres southeast of Yorkton.
