A short ceremony, which attracted about 30 people, was held Sunday as wreaths were laid at the Cenotaph in Yorkton to mark the Wounded Warrior Weekend. “Wounded Warriors Weekend is an annual event that hosts heroes who sacrificed so much for us,” explains www.woundedwarriorsweekend.org. “These men and women have sacrificed their own physical and mental well-being in order that we may live in freedom, peace, safety, and security; from the Victoria Cross and Medal of Honour Recipients who wrote the book on courage; to the brave injured men and women who come home with their lives irreparably changed but without bitterness; and to the troops on active duty who put their lives on the line for the freedom it affords all of us. Wounded Warriors Weekend is a time for patriots, our partners, honoured guests and friends to salute you, revere you, and thank you. Your courage and conviction make us profoundly grateful. This annual event was founded in 2012 by a retired air force veteran who served with the Canadian Air Force as well as the United States Air Force.” The local ceremony saw wreaths laid by Mayor Bob Maloney, Lauretta Ritchie-McInnes representing MLA Greg Ottenbreit and MP Cathay Wagantall. The event was related to the ’Run to Remember’ which also passed through the area this week.
