High Impact Wrestling (HIW) comes to Yorkton this Saturday.
The Regina-based wrestling promotion will be holding a show at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, in what company spokesperson Matt Rogers says is hoped to be a regular event.
"We're hoping to come back on a regular basis," he said.
Rogers said HIW evolved out of what was once known as Hardcore Wrestling, a promotion which did shows in Yorkton a number of years ago.
In its new format HIW has become what Rogers said is a very family-friendly wrestling, with the athletes trying to be good role models.
The format has proven successful with monthly shows in Regina regularly attracting 200-300 fans, said Rogers.
The promotion draws on a local stable of about 30 wrestlers, said Rogers, adding "all of us have 9-to-5 jobs.
"We just do it for the excitement, the rush in the ring."
King Kash is currently the local champion, and Rogers said he expects a couple of title matches on Saturday's card.
Rogers is a wrestler himself.
"I've been at it about seven years," he said, adding all of it has been in Regina.
For Rogers wrestling has always been an interest.
"Since I was about four-year-old I watched WWF (now WWE). Since childhood I wanted to continue that interest," he said.
For Rogers that meant going to Calgary and the famous Hart family training centre.
"They showed me a few things, the ropes," he said.
When he moved back to Regina he learned of the local company and became involved."It's just a childhood dream I kept pursuing," he said. "It's the thrill, the adrenaline, doing the show for the fans."
Advance tickets are available at the Legion office.
