The Saskatchewan Archives Board has announce dthe publication of a First World War commemorative issue of its magazine, Saskatchewan History. This beautiful full-colour issue is filled with incredible photographs, artwork and compelling tales of the Saskatchewan experience during the Great War, 1914-1918.
"Our government is proud to support the Saskatchewan Archives Board in preserving the memory of Saskatchewan people who bravely fought for our province and our nation during the First World War," Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Archives Board Mark Docherty said.
"This commemorative issue presents a powerful glimpse into the documentary records of a century ago," Provincial Archivist Linda McIntyre said. "Through these records, the voices of those who experienced the War are heard once more, clearly bringing to life the remarkable spirit of Saskatchewan's citizens."
The articles in the commemorative issue examine poignant wartime correspondence and diary entries by soldiers and nurses serving overseas; a Saskatchewan poet's response to "In Flanders Fields"; reproductions of Great War commemorative art and wartime posters; and, a representation of what was being published in newspapers during the Great War, including a report by W.R. Motherwell which discusses the Saskatchewan war effort.
