YBID creating flour mill park

Yorkton Council unanimously approved a recommendation which will lead to the development of a park area adjacent to the old flour mill in the city.

Yorkton Council unanimously approved a recommendation which will lead to the development of a park area adjacent to the old flour mill in the city.

"The Yorkton Business Improvement District (YBID) submitted a concept design to the City to beautify the northwest corner of the old flour mill lot," said Darcy McLeod, Director of Community Development, Parks and Recreation.

The park area will incorporate some rather simple design principles.

"The area will be seeded with natural prairie grass and shrubs that are drought tolerant. A hard surface trail will be incorporated from a gravel parking area as well as from the street to provide access up to the building. The rail spur will be left in place in case there are plans for future development of the site. The YBID would be responsible for all costs associated to the beautification," detailed a report circulated to Council from McLeod.

The YBID presented this concept to Administration and the Community Development, Parks and Recreation (CDPR) Committee and stressed that this project does not include anything outside of the beautification of the land.

McLeod said neither Administration nor the CDPR had any objections to the YBID plan.

McLeod said for the project to proceed Council approval was required, since it is City property.
