Yellowhead award for Goulden

After nearly a dozen years of involvement Randy Goulden was recently presented with a service award from the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association (TCYHA).

At the 67th Annual Conference, Goulden was presented with the prestigious Tête Jaune Award.

The award recognizes long standing commitment and service to the Association for ten years or more. It was presented to Councillor Goulden for her special contributions as a Director, Committee member, and for her work towards the achievement of the objectives of the Yellowhead Highway Association.

Goulden received the TCYHA "Builder of the Yellowhead" award, recognizing service to the Association to those who have made special contributions in the promotion of the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway in 1996.

The award came as a surprise, said Goulden, who said even as a Board member she was not aware she was being honoured.

Goulden has been active with the association since 1995 and since that time she has continued to support the association. She serves on the Board of Directors and currently sits as the Saskatchewan Vice President.

The association was formed in 1947 by municipalities along what is now known as Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway #16 (and Yellowhead Highway #5 in B.C.) to bring together a collective effort for a northwestern highway route to the west coast to be built.

Goulden said the TCYHA works to promote Highway #16 "as a major highway corridor across Canada," adding from a Yorkton perspective "it's a major highway connector for goods and services and visitors coming into the city."

In addition to promoting the Yellowhead's importance, Goulden said the YHA "also advocates for safe highways." It's a case where highways need to be in good condition "to move people and goods in a safe manner."

In terms of safety, the TCYHA has been lobbying the Saskatchewan government to twin the Yellowhead from Saskatoon to the Manitoba border.

While that is specific to Saskatchewan, Goulden said at the Association's recent convention held in Russell, MB. they met with representatives of all four western governments.

"We talked together about how we can work together to make improvements happen," she said.
