The Yorkton Municipal Airport is again the recipient of the Government of Saskatchewan’s Community Airport Partnership grant. This year, the airport will receive $46,500.

The program is a matching dollars program between the province and municipalities. The city of Yorkton, then, will also contribute $46,500 to the project, which means a total of $93,000 will be spent on the airport through this grant program.

In Yorkton, that money will be spent on runway and taxiway asphalt crack sealing.

Over the years, Yorkton has been the largest recipient of the CAP grant program, with $1,068,496 flowing towards the city’s airport since the program’s inception in 2007.

In total, the Community Airport Partnership grant will distribute $700,000 to 15 airports across the province. The funds are allocated to projects that support economic development, accessibility and safety initiatives. This year, the airport to receive the largest piece of the funds is North Battleford, which is getting $275,000 to fund a runway rehabilitation project.

“Whether flying to work, a medical appointment or on a fishing trip, people rely on their community airport to help them reach their destination,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said in a release. “We are pleased to continue to partner with communities across the province to upgrade and maintain their airport infrastructure.”
