It's a quiet scene at the station. It may have been too early in the morning for the regular on-lookers. Whenever a train pulled in to the station area, it mattered not if it was a village, a town or city, the platform was busy with people who had come to "meet the train" as was then the current saying. People were curious to see who detrained, who was going aboard, or they were just there to dream of someday taking a trip. Some stepped outside of the on-looker role, and helped with unloading of merchandise. The train then, always fascinated most adults and children, from pioneer days until the 1960s or so when passenger services were being discontinued on other than the main lines. For over a half century, most people did not complain at the sound of the engine's whistle. Many of us are still awed at the sheer power of the steam and diesel locomotives.
