Local artist, Carol Bolt, expresses her fascination with pottery in Pots & Paints, our current show at community pARTners gallery. Diverse and decorative wares, hand-built as well as wheel-thrown, punctuated with cheerful paintings, are sure to refresh your day. The Yorkton Branch of the Saskatchewan Genealogy Society will be holding their next regular meeting on Tues., Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Yorkton Public Library. Special Guest will be Wade Stachura speaking about the #566 Canora Air Cadets European Trip to Vimy Ridge and Juno Beach on D Day, 2014. This presentation will be very interesting to anyone doing military family searches. Anyone who is interested in genealogy, whether you are just beginning your research or are a seasoned time traveller, is welcome to attend! The Canadian Federation of University Women/Yorkton will hold a Book Market at the Yorkton Co-op Grocery Store, 30 Argyle St. Yorkton, Sask. on Thurs., Oct. 30, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Fri., Oct. 31, 9:30 a.m. -3:00 p.m.; and Sat., Nov. 1, 9:30-5:30 p.m. We welcome donations of gently used books, boardgames, DVD videos, video games, music CD's and puzzles. Please bring these items to the Co-op on the days of the sale. Proceeds from the Book Market will go toward our local scholarship fund. Thank you for your support.

Bring all your little ghosts and goblins to the Parkland Mall's Halloween Event on Oct. 31, from 2 to 5 p.m., enjoy crafts, coloring and treat bags for 250 kids - as well as fun Halloween photo ops, so make sure to bring your camera! Open to children ages 2 to 12 and must be accompanied by an adult. Also, retailers with balloons outside their store will be handing out candy so feel free to stop by these locations with your ghosts and goblins. Celebrate Halloween with Parkland Mall, Oct. 31 from 2 to 5 p.m. Parkland Mall is proud to host this free Halloween event.

The Brayden Ottenbreit Memorial Book Fund, generously supported and annually funded by the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton, is currently accepting applications for the provision of books or other items valued at approximately $500 to any school, group or organization in the Yorkton area that are in need of materials to promote and encourage literacy. Interested parties are encouraged to submit a 500-word essay to [email protected] before Fri., Oct. 31, stating their need and the items they wish to receive through this funding.

Join us in the fight against diabetes! The Canadian Diabetes Association will be knocking on doors for our annual residential campaign from Oct. 15 to 30, 2014. Every year in Saskatchewan the Canadian Diabetes Association runs an annual door-to-door fundraising Residential Campaign. Generous individuals from across the province make financial donations when volunteer canvassers knock on their doors. The money raised during this fundraiser goes towards research, advocacy and public educational programming which support individuals living with and affected by all three forms of Diabetes (type 1, type 2 and gestational). With over 90,000 people in Saskatchewan living with diabetes, your contribution will help those individuals who are personally affected by diabetes find ways to live a full, healthy and active life.
