Bruce Thurston, General Manager of the Yorkton Co-op announced that the Yorkton Co-op will return as the Presenting Sponsor of The Health Foundation’s annual Charity Road Race. The Presenting Sponsorship requires a $5,000 donation.

“This is the kind of event the Yorkton Co-op likes to be involved with. This event helps our community by raising money for our local healthcare, and that’s good all by itself. But, in addition to that it promotes health and fitness with a lot of outreach to schools and the business community, and that is a very good thing,” said Thurston.

“This is also our third commitment to The Health Foundation this year,” continued Thurston. “We have already run our ‘Fill-up for the Health of It’ promotion that we do each year in conjunction with the annual radiothon; that donation amounted to $4,171. We have previously committed to donate the fuel required for the annual Farming for Health project.”

“We make commitments like these because we believe in the work of The Health Foundation,” he continued. “The work they do benefits everyone in this region because it is about improving the health services available to everyone in this part of the province. When we make a donation to The Health Foundation we know it benefits our customers and our employees, and helps to make our communities in this region a better place to live and raise a family; that’s very important to the Yorkton Co-op,” said  Thurston.

“We are very fortunate to have the Yorkton Co-op as our Presenting Sponsor, said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation. Events like this can’t take place if you don’t have significant sponsorship, and we are very fortunate that the Yorkton Co-op is so very supportive and works with us to improve our local healthcare.”

In addition to providing $5,000 as the Presenting Sponsor, the Yorkton Co-op also helps by supplying fruit, water, muffins and refreshments for the runners. The Yorkton Co-op supports many of our campaigns for new medical equipment, and has worked with us for years. We are very pleased to have their continuing support, continued Fisher.

The Charity Road Race features six events: a half marathon, a 10 km relay event and individual runs of 10km, 5km, a 2km junior race and a 5km community walk. The 10 km relay features teams of 4 people, with each person running 2.5 km.

“People are entering the Road Race to use it as incentive to get in shape, or to quit smoking, or to lose weight. Many enter the road race and collect pledges to help raise funds for medical equipment. This year all of the funds raised from the Charity Road Race will go toward the purchase of the new telemetry monitoring equipment for the ICU in the regional hospital.

There are a lot of reasons why people should participate, but regardless of why you enter the Charity Road Race, we are going to make sure it is well organized and people have a great day,”  Fisher continued.
