Air search and rescue crews from across western Canada will be in Yorkton August 9 to 11 for an annual training exercise.
The Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) is a national volunteer organization of pilots, navigators, spotters, search coordinators, electronic search specialists, radio operators and administration staff who provide air search support to the Royal Canadian Air Force and generally promote aviation safety.
Every year, CASARA member organizations from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C. and the Northwest Territories get together to practice their skills and share knowledge.
"We all learn from each other," said Ray Sass, a member of the planning committee for the upcoming exercise.
The exercise will include 12 to 14 targets simulating lost persons or planes spread around a 150-mile radius from Yorkton airport.
Across the country, each province and territory is considered a member organization (MO). Each MO is divided into zones. The Yorkton area (Saskatchewan Zone 6) has 29 members who have logged more than 277 hours in the air.
