Yorkton This Week (YTW) has returned from this year's Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper Association's Better Newspapers Competition with three awards for its weekly edition.
In the class for newspaper with circulations of 3,500-to-6,499 YTW took third place awards in three categories; Best Overall Paper, Best Editorial Page and Best Front Page.
Long-time YTW journalist Calvin Daniels was presented with two awards.
Daniels took second place in the Best Business Writing category for coverage from the 2010 Wings of Saskatchewan Conference held in Yorkton in November.
A third place in the Best Sports Story category also came Daniels' way. The feature was on Yorkton Terrier Luke Boechler and his battle with leukemia.
Journalist Chris Putnam also captured a third in the Best First Nations Coverage for his story on a presentation by Chief Ovide Mercredi when he was in the city.
