An 18-year-old Yorkton woman has pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death related to a May 2014 SUV rollover on Highway 10.
In the early hours of May 27, police responded to a ‘suspicious person’ report from a resident of York Lake Road. What they found was an injured 18-year-old woman who had crashed the vehicle she had been driving. Officers found the crashed SUV approximately one kilometre south of Yorkton where firefighters used the jaws-of-life to extract a 21-year-old passenger, but she was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.
First responders found the other passenger, a 17-year-old girl who had been ejected from the vehicle, nearby. She was transported to Yorkton hospital by ambulance then airlifted to Regina by STARS air ambulance and has since recovered.
In Yorkton Provincial court December 29, Brandi Hotomani pleaded guilty to one count each of impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
Richard Yaholnitsky for the defence requested and was granted an order for a pre-sentence report with a concentration on addictions.
Hotomani is currently on probation pending sentencing March 5.
