In the coming weeks and months, Yorkton This Week will feature a special series of articles by city historian Therese Lefebvre Prince on the history of Yorkton's early years.
"As heritage researcher for the city of Yorkton, I've known that the very first history, the colonizing history of Yorkton, is not well-known," says Lefebvre Prince.
The researcher plans to tell the story of Yorkton's corporate origins as York Colony, a settlement established 130 years ago by a group known as the York Farmers Colonization Company.
"Not every town in Saskatchewan was started by a colonizing company, and people don't know what that means," says Lefebvre Prince, who hopes to put Yorkton's residents back in touch with their city's early roots.
The series, "Yorkton's Corporate History," will run alongside the regular History Corner feature.
