One youth has been arrested and several other people are under investigation for a home invasion and assault that ended with a high-speed police chase in a downtown residential area.
On May 15, police received a call about a home invasion. When they arrived at the residence, two victims had been injured and a number of suspects fled the scene in a stolen pickup truck.
RCMP members gave pursuit with speeds reaching up to 80 kilometres per hour on city streets. Following the brief chase, the driver of the pickup attempted a turn at too high a rate of speed, lost control and rammed into a power pole.
The Mounties say they are looking for four to possibly five other people in addition to the arrested youth, who cannot be named because he is under the age of 18. He faces numerous charges and remains in custody.
The extent of the victims’ injuries has not been disclosed.
