"The Yorkton Regional High School partnered with Yorkton Fire and Protection Services to complete a real-life welding project at the school this past year. Officials from the Fire Dept. approached the school saying that they were in need of some industrial strength lockers to store their fire gear. The Fire Dept. supplied the materials for the project while the YRHS Welding Dept. under the watchful eye of Mr. East supplied the labour. According to East, "these types of projects allow us to take what we are learning within the welding curriculum and ramp it up a little, students get to extend their learning beyond running simple beads to an actual real-life application." Mike Haczkewicz, principal of the YRHS is pleased to have been given the opportunity to help out. "I am thankful that we could lend a hand with this project," he added, "partnering with the community to enrich student learning is something we would like to do more of, providing the project matches our curricular outcomes."
