Yorkton's Samara Yung has released her second music video.
The video for 'I Wonder Why' is Yung's second, and is a sort of follow-up to 'Mardis Gras' both single releases from her most recent album July Rain.
While it was Yung's second time in front of the cameras, she said it was no easier this time around, "because it was very different. This video has a very different feel to it."
'Mardi Gras' is an upbeat song, which Yung said matches her personality, so it was pretty easy to get into the mood for the video.
'I Wonder Why' is a song about break-up, so the mood of the video is quite different.
"I knew it was going to be different. I knew the whole feeling was going to be different," said Yung.
The new video required more of an acting job, said Yung. She said that is where taking part in stage productions in school, and with community groups in Yorkton both proved beneficial.
"I worked with some great directors in community theatre and school theatre," she said.
Yung said it takes some focus to be singing, chopping vegetables and listening for direction, all "while trying to look natural."
As for the vision of the video, that is where Yung trusted her producer Stephano Barberis.
"Stephano is amazing. He has an amazing artistic mind. He can see things other people can't see," she said.
Yung said she trusted Barberis to create a video that looked good, while getting the emotion of the song across.
So is the new video better than her first?
"I don't know if it's better. It's just different," she said. "I'm really proud of both."
The new song does holds more meaning for Yung personally though, since her father Murray Yung has co-writing credits along with Steve Fox.
"The song means a bit more to me because I've got that connection to the song because of dad," she said.
The video was shot in a rented loft in downtown Vancouver over 14-hours in mid-March.
"It was a long day," said Yung.
The video is now on YouTube.
"And we sent it to CMT," said Yung. "We know they really like it, but they're waiting to see what radio will do with it."
Yung said they hope the video online will help with radio play, something they saw with 'Mardi Gras' but not with 'Big Yellow Taxi' a single release not supported by a video.
While Yung hopes 'I Wonder Why' does well heading into summer, she said it's also time to start working on a follow up disk to July Rain.
