Today, at the regular Board meeting of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, the results of the recent Board election were approved. It was a most unusual election year as only six nominations were received for the eight positions available.

Steve Gibson is hoping for a little exposure Friday, and we’re not talking about COVID-19. Gibson, with special guest BriteCruise will be performing at the City Limits Inn in Yorkton, and the performance is being filmed for broadcast by SaskTel Max.

There is history behind the hangar building that Leading Edge Aviation and Yorkton Aircraft Service occupy in the Yorkton Regional Airport. The building is the original British Commonwealth Air Training Plan hangar from WWII, Flight School No. 11.

In the 2020 election, city council hasn’t changed very much, with four people returning to council seats - Darcy Zaharia, Ken Chyz, Quinn Haider and Randy Goulden - and one former councillor taking the mayor’s chair with Mitch Hippsley.

The Health Foundation received a generous donation of $15,000 from Legacy Co-op to assist the purchase of new surgical and lab equipment.

On Friday Nov. 13, 34 Chambers of Commerce, associations and economic development groups co-signed an Open Letter to the People of Saskatchewan. The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce was one of the signatories.

Even hours after his election as mayor, Mitch Hippsley said it had not quite hit him.

The historic signs at the Brick Mill Historic Site in the city have found some new sponsorships.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority’s (SHA) public health flu shot clinics at St. Mary’s Cultural Centre in Yorkton (240 Wellington Avenue) are accepting walk-ins. Yorkton St. Mary’s Cultural Centre, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Just because people couldn’t gather together in 2020 doesn’t mean that they didn’t have stories to share. This year the Yorkton Arts Council’s Story Slam event went virtual, with five local storytellers submitting their story virtually.
