SASKATOON — Paulette Popadynec needed a moment to figure out if she had actually won the prize amount that flashed across the screen when she scanned her LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket.

“I took the ticket to the store and scanned it,” she said. “On top of it just being unbelievable, I couldn’t tell if the clerk was being serious about the amount or not.”

As it turns out, the store clerk was telling the truth. The Saskatoon local won $100,000 on the Dec. 7 EXTRA draw.

“The clerk kept looking at me and looking at the ticket,” she continued. “He said, ‘You won really big!’ All I could say was, ‘Really!?’”

Popadynec said she has a couple big plans for her windfall, starting with a few bill payments.

“I’m going to pay off my vehicle and top up my investments,” she said. “The rest of it will help ease me into retirement in a couple months.”

The winner said she also plans to share some of her winnings with her children.

Popadynec purchased her winning ticket from the Canarama Shell located at 7 Assiniboine Dr. in Saskatoon. She won her prize by matching the last six digits of the EXTRA number drawn on
Dec. 7 – 6473019.
