About twice as many wildlife trophies were measured at Kamsack last week than were measured last year.
The Kamsack branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation held its annual antler measuring event at the Broda Sportsplex on December 5 when Heath Dreger of Yorkton, president of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and official measurer for Boone and Crockett and Henry Kelsey, measured the Kamsack sportsmen’s trophies.
Measured were 16 trophies provided by Kamsack wildlife members, and one set of moose antlers from a non-member, said Riley Barrowman, president of the Kamsack wildlife federation. These included two elk, three mule deer, 10 white-tailed deer and one bear skull.
This was much better than the last couple of years, Barrowman said, explaining that only between five and 10 trophies were measured last year.
“A lot of people showed up to see the trophies and the hunters,” Barrowman said. “There were quite a few good deer.”
Results of the measuring will be revealed at the group’s annual awards banquet to be held at the beginning of March.
