Are we hockey fans or not in Yorkton? I’ve lived in this city since 2001 and the Terriers have won four championships and been in the league finals a couple of other times. They’ve had some great teams and I’ve witnessed some dominating offensive players. Chris Korchinski, Justin Keller, and Brett Boehm come immediately to mind. However, with all due respect, none of them hold a candle to what Chantz Petruic is doing this season. There isn’t a better Junior ‘A’ player in Canada. In goal, Ryan Ouellette is off to the CJHL Top Prospects Game in January. Again, I’ve seen Kevin Dziaduck, Brett Bothwell, Lynden Sammartino, Devin Peters, Kale Thomson, etc and all of them were exceptional. However, Ouellette is having a better season than all of them to this point (Thomson did get a lot of shutouts though). So, why aren’t we going to the games? If you need $1 hot dogs or some other gimmick to get you to go to the rink, then you are not a hockey fan. The Terriers have a winning record and two of the best players in the entire country. Heck, it’s not normal for the same league to have the best forward and the best goalie let alone the same team but Yorkton has them. Let’s get out to the games in the second half. Petruic had his second four goal game in a month last Tuesday and barely 500 were there to see it. Shameful.
Canada is getting out of the coal business. We’ve known this for quite some time and PPI Board CEO Mark Machin told the Commons Finance Committee in May that “Every direct investment now has to go through a screen of climate risks involved in that particular investment.” This does not apply to Chinese coal operators, evidently, as Canada has dropped $141-million into 21 Chinese coal operators while western Canada continues its economic spiral down the drain. Just the latest example of the blatant assault by Trudeau, his minions, and eastern Canada voters on our way of life.
Is it any wonder now that the federal Conservatives didn’t win the election? Could these people organize a one-car parade? Leader Andrew Scheer has been squeezed out and is stepping down despite having led the Cons to the point where they actually won the popular vote, they just didn’t get needed seats in Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes. Now, comes word Scheer’s kids were funded by the Party for their schooling and just the other day information leaked that his expense account went through the roof. It’s not tax dollars, so why not just keep this ‘in house’? No, instead, they have to make sure everyone knows and their critics (which are many when it comes to media) can blast them and publicize negatively all day long for as long as they want.
My prediction is this - whenever the next election is held, the Conservatives will be further away from winning than they are today. Potential leader and current front runner Rona Ambrose will be eaten alive by Trudeau. Those who think he will take it easy on her because she’s female and he won’t use his hateful, underhanded personal attacks on her should only look at how he dealt with Jody Wilson-Raybould, Jane Philpott, and Celina Caesar-Chavannes.
Besides, Ambrose is not a real Conservative. She’s a soft liberal and it seems Conservatives will never ever learn that no matter how much you pander to liberal ways, they won’t ever vote for you. They just laugh at how they’ve managed to get you to compromise your values and then vote Liberal anyway. What the Conservatives need to do is (and I don’t currently have faith they will do it) sit down and decide what exactly they are as a Party and then they should elect a leader who will be strong and stick with what they’ve decided. My advice would be to come forth on a strong plan to revive the economy and lower taxes. Put more money in people’s pockets because at the end of the day money talks. It always has and if you give someone money, especially more of their own to keep then I think they will vote for you. Recycling their last platform under a leader who marches in parades and promotes abortion isn’t going to get it done. I just have no sense of enthusiasm the Conservatives know how to go about this or have the stones to stand in front of the media and just spit out a platform they are willing to risk success on. Instead it’s a tap dance and hope the Liberals lose as oppose to Conservatives winning. It’s a recipe that failed already and will fail again.
Sorry to put lumps of coal in your stockings, Conservative voters. I get it. I’m one of them too. I’m also disheartened. Nevertheless, be thankful for what we still have and what the Liberals haven’t taken away...yet. And, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
