The 10th and final Saskatchewan Blue Cross Go Out & Play Challenge will see 38 communities rally to win the $10,000 grand prize.

The challenge is designed to remind community leaders about the importance of spaces and places for outdoor play. The community that moves most during the 10-day challenge receives $10,000 for a project that gets kids and families out to play.

"Outdoor play has always been an important way to get kids moving more," said Marnie Forsberg, Manager of Saskatchewan in motion in a release. "It's especially important this year with COVID limiting other opportunities for kids to move. We're seeing real recognition of that in the types of projects communities are putting forward."

From March 1-10, registered communities rally residents to log physical activity minutes every day. The community that ends the challenge with the most minutes wins the grand prize.

Area communities involved, and the projects they are supporting include;

Kamsack - Outdoor Community Rink

Langenburg - New Swimming Pool Project

Moosomin - Peter Nabholz Circle Skateway

Norquay- Norquay School Playground

Porcupine Plain - Spruce Up Scott Park

Wadena- Town of Wadena Outdoor Arena

Last year's winner, Assiniboia logged nearly 435,700 minutes of activity. Across the province, participants from 30 communities logged more than 3.4 million minutes of activity in 2020.

"It's always exciting to see how the province comes together during the challenge," said Jackie Lay, Saskatchewan Blue Cross Community Engagement Specialist in the release. "We'd love to see Saskatchewan finish with a record-breaking year of activity in the name of outdoor play."

Over the last nine years, the challenge has awarded $150,000 to 18 communities. The winners have built trails and play spaces, and revitalized parks, rinks and swimming pools.

Individuals and families can create profiles and track their daily activity online March 1-10 at challenge.saskatchewaninmotion.ca.
