Assiniboine 4-H club members acknowledged at awards night

Members of the Assiniboine Beef and Multi 4-H Club were acknowledged in their first awards ceremony which was held at the Rockford Hall on August 14.

            Members of the Assiniboine Beef and Multi 4-H Club were acknowledged in their first awards ceremony which was held at the Rockford Hall on August 14.

            Leaders Billiejoe Townsend and Dani Volpatti kicked off the program by welcoming all members, family and guests to the fun-filled evening. They presented awards and trophies to members.

            "The awards night was held at Rockford on August 14 with great success," said Townsend. "The members had a pre-awards meeting with a potluck meal followed by coffee and cake for the public during and after the presentation of the awards. We also had a family dance and wagon rides provided by Ray Rosenkerr. It all went smoothly and was a great way to end our busy year."

            In the following weeks the club will be having the 2017 registration so if one is interested in joining the thriving club, he or she may contact the leaders Billiejoe Townsend, Fallyn Oxley or Dani Volpatti.

"The club has a page on Facebook as well so join us to keep up with the club events and registration dates,” Townsend said. “We will be serving in the kitchen at the October trade show at the Preeceville Legion Hall on October 8 too, so we hope to see you there where you can show your support of our young club."

            Isaiah Maier was presented with the junior grooming and junior market steer trophies. Kate Covlin placed second and Emma Covlin received third place in both categories.

            Sam Volpatti received the Cloverbud grooming trophy. Hudson Maier won second and Tess Covlin placed third.

            Isaiah Maier won the junior showmanship trophy and was named the top junior showman. Emma Covlin placed second and Kate Covlin placed third.

            Tess Colvin won the Cloverbud showmanship award and was named the top Cloverbud showman. Hudson Maier placed second and Sam Volpatti placed third.

            Hudson Maier won the award for the top Cloverbud market steer and Tess Covlin placed second.

            Isaiah Maier was crowned with the grand champion market steer award.

            Hudson Maier won the reserve market steer trophy.

            Sam Volpatti won the grand champion heifer trophy. Isaiah Maier received the trophy for honourable mention.

            Awards were also presented in the goat category. Niamh Honig received the trophies for grand champion goat and goat showmanship.

            The evening concluded with fun horse-drawn wagon rides, provided by Ray Rosenkerr, and a family entertainment dance.
