Assiniboine Community College holding new Applied Electrical Installation program

Assiniboine will offer anewsix-month Applied Electrical Installation certificate startingJanuary2021 atthe Parkland campus in Dauphin.

Applications for the program are now being accepted.

This electrical certificate program includes both practical and theory components, focussing on residential wiring systems and safety, including safe work procedures, electrical code and blueprint reading.“

In true learn by doing fashion, students’ safety and wiring skills will be put to practice in our simulation condos,” said Grant Lawford, Chair of Construction Trades at Assiniboine.

Applied Electrical Installation will consist of five months of theory and practical learning followed by an industry practicum, for a total of 740 hours.

This program will be accredited with Apprenticeship Manitoba. Graduateswill gainentry-level skills in the electrical trade and will meet the Level 1 electrical apprenticeship in-school technical training requirements.

“This programwill form the basis for furthertraining toward a journeyperson certification,”said Gabe Mercier, Director, Parkland Campus at Assiniboine. “Industry is looking for entry level workers who meet Level 1Apprenticeship requirements. Providing a six-month opportunity for these learners tolaunch their career and further trainingwillallowmore students to be trained to fill this need.”

Graduates of this new program will have the opportunity to build careersand further theirapprenticeshiptraining with electrical contractors and construction companies, in maintenance departments or with public utilities.
