Barveenok Ukrainian annual spring concert showcased dancers

The Barveenok Ukrainian Dance Club hosted its annual spring concert with the talent of the many dancers showcased at the Sturgis Composite High School on April 15. Sheila Klebeck was the emcee and welcomed everyone.

The Barveenok Ukrainian Dance Club hosted its annual spring concert with the talent of the many dancers showcased at the Sturgis Composite High School on April 15.

Sheila Klebeck was the emcee and welcomed everyone. O Canada was sung both in the English and Ukrainian languages prior to the dance performances.

The entire club kicked off the afternoon performance with a traditional Pryvit opening welcome dance.

Senior dancers Kylie Babiuk, Layne Englot, Sierra Karcha, Alyssa Mirva, Daniell Mirva and Hunter Mirva performed a Transcarpathian and a Poltava dance.

The beginner and junior dancers Allie Babiuk, Shaye Burym, Maycee Johnson, Keltyn Konkel and Eva Romanchuk, performed two Poltava dances.

Intermediate dancers Lyndon Gawrelitza, Shaylyn Karcha and Bracyn Konkel performed a Volyn and a Poltava dance.

The Tropak adult dancers Eric Sliva, Elyse Thomas, Alex Eskra, Briana Shymanski and Brittany Johnson performed two guest dances: a Bukovian and a Volyn.

Eric Sliva, instructor, and his partner Elyse Thomas, performed an instructors’ Volyn dance.

The performance concluded with a grand finale by the entire dance club.

Daniell Mirva and Hunter Mirva each received a five-year plaque during the awards ceremony. Kylie Babiuk received a 10-year plaque.

The dance club executive committee includes: Dallas Burym, president; Trudy Halvorson, vice-president; Sandra Johnson, secretary, and Tara Romanchuk, treasurer.
