The Barveenok Ukrainian Dance Club hosted its annual spring concert with the talent of the many dancers showcased at the Sturgis Composite High School on April 30.
Loranda Shuba, president, was the emcee who welcomed everyone, and Lillian Steranko sang O Canada in Ukrainian.
The entire club kicked off the afternoon performance with a traditional Pryvit opening welcome dance.
Kylie Babiuk performed a Transcarpathian solo.
Keltyn Konkel, Shaye Burym, Eva Romanchuk and Skylee Petras performed a beginners’ Poltava dance.
Mason Babiuk, Bracyn Konkel, Cassidy Paterson, Alecia Shuba and Lyndon Gawrelitza performed an intermediate Hutzul and a Volyn dance.
Connor Burym, Avery Masley, Allie Babiuk and Trinity Petras performed a junior Transcarpathian number.
The Norquay Rosa senior dancers performed a guest gypsy dance. Dancers were Nicole Turseki, Sasha Sobothniski and Calum Livingstone.
Kylie Babiuk, Brynn Babiuk, Layne Englot, Allyssa Mirva, Hunter Mirva and Daniell Mirva danced an intermediate Transcarpathian selection.
Alecia Shuba danced a Transcarpathian solo.
Kylie, Mason and Allie Babiuk performed a Poltava family dance.
` Conner Burym, Avery Masley, Allie Babiuk, Trinity Petras and Karter Johnson performed a Poltava dance.
The Norquay Rosa adult dancers of Allyson Grywacheski, Mikaela Musey, Kim Gulka and Karlie Kowalchuk performed a Poltava guest dance.
Eric Sliva, instructor, and his partner Elyse Thomas, danced an instructors’ Bukovina dance.
The performance concluded with a grand finale by the entire dance club.
Allysssa Mirva received a five-year plaque during the awards ceremony. Club members also received certificates.
The dance club executive committee includes Loranda Shuba, president; Dallas Burym, vice-president; Dodi Paterson, secretary, and Kirsten Peterson, treasurer.
