Bear in Canora
A bear was spotted in Canora on September 3. Through the combined efforts of the Canora RCMP detachment and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, the bear was captured and euthanized.

On September 3 a bear was spotted on the west side of Canora near the chicken barns, said Cst. Taunya Kondratoff, of the Canora RCMP.

The bear made its way into Canora, and the RCMP were made aware of the situation at around 6 p.m., said Kondratoff.

Two Canora RCMP officers and two Ministry of Environment conservation officers responded to the report.

The bear was cordoned off and it climbed up a tree. Conservation officers made the decision to euthanize the bear because the animal was a public safety risk due to its proximity to neighbouring homes and people in the community, according to information from the Ministry of Environment.

The information went on to say that Saskatchewan has a healthy bear population, but there have not been many reports of bears in the Canora region.
