Canora artist holds outdoor art fundraiser

As parades, picnics, and other summer activities are organized in Canora, one folk artist will be joining the fun with a fundraiser taking place in her outdoor garden.

As parades, picnics, and other summer activities are organized in Canora, one folk artist will be joining the fun with a fundraiser taking place in her outdoor garden.

Helen Michaels is a Canora resident who has taken up painting as a hobby for over 40 years, and now hopes to use her hobby to raise money for charity. The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) is a branch of the Canadian Red Cross which is connected to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, which Michaels attends.

The organization usually works towards ending poverty in third-world countries, but is assisting with relief in Fort McMurray. To fundraise for the cause, Michaels will hold an outdoor art sale in her garden. Her paintings and pressed flowers will be displayed on her yard at 237 Second Avenue East, and all the paintings will be available for purchase.

Michaels says that she hopes people will come out and support the cause, and also enjoy some extra fun during the week of Canora in Bloom. The outdoor sale will be held from July 18 to 22, weather permitting.
