Following a tradition of supporting community causes, on Friday the Canora Flames recreational hockey club donated $1,000 to the Canora & District Health Care Foundation.
Proceeds for the donation mostly came from the 2014 Halloween Cabaret in which the Canora Flames operated the bar, said James Trofimenkoff, a Flames spokesperson.
In 2014, the Flames also donated $500 to a fund created to assist Ken Wasyliw, a Canora resident, with ambulance trips during a period of addressing his personal health care needs, Trofimenkoff said.
“The Canora Flames will continue to donate to community causes based on funds available after team expenses are looked after,” he said.
The hockey club extended a vote of appreciation to the Canora Nursery School organization for the work put into a special sign that was created for Friday’s presentation to the Foundation, Trofimenkoff said.
