Safety is a concern for most parents when sending their children to school, and Canora Junior Elementary School is ensuring that standards for safety meet the expectations of parents.

The school’s students and staff were organized and led through an emergency lockdown drill on November 8, with a surprise drill held November 9.

“We have the school organized so if need be, we can be on lockdown in seconds,” Rod Steciuk, principal of Canora Junior Elementary School, said in regards to the protocols in place for the school.

Students were drilled on where to hide in case of a lockdown and pictures were not taken so as to ensure the school’s protocols remain confidential. Steciuk assured that the children and staff members also have guidelines as to what to do when outside of the classroom, such as on the playground, in order to keep themselves safe.
