Canora students had an opportunity to do their own shopping and purchase gifts for loved ones through a gift exchange.
The Recycled Christmas Exchange was held December 8 and 9 at the Canora Junior Elementary School. Parents donated gifts that were either brand new or gently used, according to Patti-Jo Donovan, who organized the event with the School Community Council.
The gifts were sorted and placed on tables in the gymnasium. Students would fill out forms detailing who they needed to buy gifts for. High school students from Canora Composite School assisted the students pick out gifts, which were then wrapped by parent volunteers.
“For some kids, this is their only way of shopping,” said Donovan. The event certainly helped students have the opportunity to share in the joy of giving gifts.
