Canora had a memorable year in 2018 and we are looking forward to more great things in 2019.

2018

Town Council would like to take a moment to reflect on the successes of the past year.

These accomplishments include:

  • The significant Civic Centre renovations,
  • Improved public infrastructure through the paving of Fourth Avenue East and pouring of new curbs throughout town,
  • The outstanding community celebrations of Canora In Bloom, with the Kim Mitchell Concert, and the Winter Lights Festival, with a beautiful and ever expanding display at King George Park that was only made possible through our local sponsors and residents,
  • Improved town beautification through the efforts of the commissionaires and the Canora Revive Group, as well as
  • Updated communications via our Email notification system.

While these are significant accomplishments and improvements, we recognize that important works remains to be done during the year ahead.

2019

This year, Town Council will focus on significant projects identified and undertaken in the previous year as well as new initiatives designed to improve our community.

Council has started the preliminary 2019 budget discussions, which are progressing on time.

Paving will remain a big point of emphasis this coming year and is expected to address all outstanding major repairs that were not completed in 2018. Paving is on a three-year project rotation, which enables for better budget preparation and maintenance.

Council also remains devoted to addressing the landfill concerns raised by the environmental site assessment. Council will make significant decisions about the current landfill in the near future and expects significant changes and expenditures will be made regarding the landfill and its operations.

Council will continue its plan towards enhancing the appearance of our community and showcasing small town living as well.

We ask everyone to look around as if you are seeing Canora for the first time. We often take for granted our clean winter streets and beautiful trees in the summer as well as our many low-cost recreational events.

Council will be focused on encouraging both residents and business owners to continue to strive towards a friendly, tidy and inviting community for residents and visitors alike.
